The Ultimate Guide About Lab-Grown Diamonds

In 1953, Marilyn Monroe enchanted the world with the song “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” But, the truth is that way before that, diamonds had already conquered many hearts throughout history. The very first records of this stone goes back more than 3 thousand years ago, in India. Since then, it’s inevitable that they have become everyone’s best friend.

Whether it’s for a night out or a lunch with friends, diamonds are there for you; always ready to change the simplest of the outfits into something worth wearing. Have you heard the term, “lab-grown diamonds?” They’re becoming more and more popular in the jewelry industry. Let’s find out why!

What are lab-grown diamonds?

A lot is being said about lab-grown diamonds, but it’s not enough to understand what they are. Diamonds have been mined for thousands of years,  since it’s a natural stone formed deep inside the Earth.

This process takes billions of years to complete and consists, in short, of carbon dioxide being exposed to extremely high conditions of temperature and pressure, until it solidifies. It’s not a reliable procedure, because even the smallest change in the necessary conditions will interrupt the production.

Since diamonds are a finite resource that requires mining, scientists have developed a faster way to acquire this precious stone. Due to technological developments, it is now possible to produce diamonds inside of a laboratory. That’s why they’re called, “lab-grown diamonds.”

How does the process happen?

There are two ways to produce diamonds. One of them is called Chemical Vapor Deposition. It uses a mixture of hydrocarbon gas, and it heats a small slice of diamond seed up to 800 degrees Celsius. The seed is mixed with more carbon gasses until it creates plasma, allowing carbon to transform into a diamond.

The second one is called High Pressure and High Temperature, and it recreates the conditions in which a natural diamond would form beneath the Earth. The procedure takes just a few months to be completed, unlike natural diamonds that take years and years.

Are lab-grown diamonds real?

Of course they are! Not only real, but also a piece of jewelry that will last for generations to come. Lab-grown diamonds, as well as natural ones, come in different carats, clarity and colors. You’ll certainly have a wide variety of models to choose from.

The best part is that it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference between them. Only by using specialized equipment by experts it’s possible to tell whether it’s a lab-grown or a mined diamond. Another advantage is that lab-created diamonds cost less, so you’ll glow and look stunning for a better price.

Which diamond is better: natural or lab-grown?

This answer depends on your personal preference. For some people, having a mined diamond is a dream. Others take into consideration other aspects, such as the environmental impact and the ethics of the process.

This is one of the reasons why lab-grown diamonds are getting so popular. They are considered eco-friendly, because their process causes minimal impact on the environment. On the other hand, natural diamonds need to be mined and this is harmful to both the environment and to the miners.

Diamonds created inside a lab are traceable and conflict free. This means you can easily see where they were produced. It’s impossible not to fall in love with them, they’re diamonds! They’re a true statement piece in every outfit. Diamonds are also perfect gifts!
